How do I register my child for the Junior Saluki Experience? Registration for a Junior Saluki is part of the guests registration form in the student’s New Student Orientation reservation. To register your Junior Saluki, please visit our website and click the create or modify your reservation link in the grey box on the right side of the page.


Who can attend the Junior Saluki Experience? We welcome all children 5th – 12th grade to attend the program: siblings, children, other family members, friends. Registration for the Junior Saluki Experience can be completed in the SIU student’s online reservation for New Student Orientation.


Will SIU staff supervise participants for the entire program? Yes, all participants in the Junior Saluki Experience will be supervised the entire day by trained, SIU staff.


Is there a cost to participate in the Junior Saluki Experience? There is a program cost of $10 to attend Junior Saluki Experience. This fee covers fun Saluki “swag” and a day full of exciting activities.


What is included in the program schedule? The Junior Saluki Experience includes activitites such as bowling, crafts, an overview of SIU and more.


What ages can attend the Junior Saluki Experience? Any child entering 5th -12th grade in the fall 2019 school year is welcome to attend the Junior Saluki Experience.


Does my child need to bring anything to the Junior Saluki Experience? We ask all Junior Salukis to wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes, as they will participate in outdoor and recreational activities. Bowling is one of the activities offered, and to participate children will need socks. Junior Salukis may also want to bring additional money for snacks (they will be with their students and family during lunch).


Where will my child need to check-in at New Student Orientation? When your student arrives at New Student Orientation, they will check in at ballroom A (2nd floor) of the Student Center. The student will also receive program information for any Junior Salukis included on their New Student Orientation reservation.


Am I able to cancel my Junior Saluki Experience reservation? Yes, you can cancel your reservation up to seven business days before your orientation date. After that date, refunds are made for emergencies only. Contact New Student Programs at (618) 453-1000 or email orientation@siu.edu to request a refund.


Am I able to change my Junior Saluki Experience reservation date? Students may change their New Student Orientation date (and corresponding Junior Saluki Experience date) by logging back into the online reservation system. Please note the Junior Saluki Experience is only available to Junior Salukis coming to campus with an incoming student who is attending New Student Orientation.


What type of payment methods are accepted? Payments can be made through the online reservation portal using a credit or debit card. Checks can be mailed to New Student Programs at 1263 Lincoln Drive; Mail Code 4424; Carbondale, IL 62901. Payments via cash, check, or credit/debit card will also be accepted on the day of orientation at the New Student Orientation Help Desk (Student Center Corker Lounge).
